No doubt you’ve heard a lot these past couple weeks about the late Akira Toriyama and his Dragon Ball legacy. Ryley, The Omnibus Collector, included a truly heartfelt tribute to Toriyama at the start of his March roundup video. Collected tributes have also been posted on Catsuka and Cinemablend and Toonami, the home of Dragon Ball Z these many years, broadcast a short tribute as well. Click into the links to see the effect of Toriyama’s passing and the influence of Dragon Ball on other creators’ lives.
But one thing rarely defines a creator’s life. Here’s some links below to other works by Akira Toriyama. As Ryley stated, we can morn but we should also celebrate. So, as always, Enjoy and Explore!
Blue Dragon
Akira Toriyama partnered with Mistwalker for the RPG game Blue Dragon, a buddy adventure travel game created for the XBOX 360. He provided character design and served as artistic adviser. Blue Dragon also had a life as an anime, with the storylines closely following game-play. You can read about both on the wiki, but here’s also an enjoyable run-through of the game.

2. | Dr. Slump, Vol. 1 by Akira Toriyama The creator of worldwide megahit Dragon Ball, Toriyama is one of the giants of manga. Dr. Slump, which debuted in 1980, is Toriyama's twisted Sesame Street, a slapstick romp with an endearingly oddball cast of characters. Dr. Slump is Dr. Senbei Norimaki ("little rice cracker"). He creates the "perfect" robot in Arale ("even littler cracker"), who looks like an adorable 13-year-old girl. Arale has her faults, though: she's nearsighted, so must wear glasses, and she has some strange habits (e.g., she talks to human waste). | 6.99 |

3. | Sand Land: Dustup In the Desert! by Akira Toriyama In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all... the King's army itself! | 6.99 |
